February 5th, 1774 was one of the sad days in the lives of Jacques Damas and his wife Marianne, née Lenoir: their one month old daughter, Anna Francisca, has died. On the same day, another family in Triebswetter was mourning: in an unnamed house, twins have died within one hour after their birth. The cemetery was quite an empty parcel in those early days of the village. Child mortality being high, the N-W corner of the graveyard got designated as the "Children's Corner". It lies behind Kathi Schulz' and Eva Bach's gravesites. Here, for over 200 years, our "little angels" were finding peace. Pretty wild flowers were always growing there, like violets in spring - they grew undisturbed, because nobody dared to walk over that soil, in order not to disturb the sleep of these little angels. |
