Entering through the gate
leading to the cemetery where our ancestors lie,
we bow our head in humility in front of God and in front of all our
dear ones
who rest there. After all, we owe them nothing less than our life.
But who says that there we also have to bow our head in front of
ignorance, vandalism and greed ?
Do teachers not fight agains ignorance?
Do policemen not fight against vandalism?
Does the staff of a court not punish criminal acts which were driven
by greed?
Don't we all, on all levels, fight against this plague, day in, day
out?
So why do we bow our head in resignation when these things happen in
our cemeteries? Why do we bow our head when these things happen in Romania?
There are many wonderful people living in that country, who would gladly
cooperate if we, the descendants of the Donauschwaben, only showed
some presence, if we only showed some interest.
If those among us whose word has got some weight only showed some
guts to ask them to issue a law protecting these old rural cemeteries.
If we did that, we might get positively surprized.
What is the use of Man conquering the space if he cannot keep
the elementary, ancestral traditions on Earth?
