doors and windows

The 1990ies were a time between the times in our village. It was well after most of the German population of Triebswetter has emigrated and before these houses got inhabited by a Romanian non-nomad population.
It was a time of destruction, when doors and window frames were used by those passing by as fire wood, to heat rooms in which the wind was blowing through broken windows.

Judging from what I've seen in the summer of 2006, most of these window frames, made by the men from the family of Eva Bach, get replaced now by modern frames, made of a white synthetik material. These are functional, indeed, but without any charachter. They are all identical, while most of the old window frames used to have,
from house to house, different carved decorations, giving them a touch of individuality. Today, after the gable has been removed, together with the decorated plaster of the house front, the carved wooden window frames have been replaced, together with many doors... our houses are beyond recognition.
Did I say "our"? Sorry, just an old habit...
